Through the generous support of several businesses, organizations and individuals, Connect Seward County (CSC) has existed for over 20 years to provide access to free technologies to members of our community. CSC provides free email service and hosts, at no charge and without ads, many websites for businesses, organizations and individuals in Seward County, including your own. The board of Connect Seward would like to thank you for using and supporting our services.
As of January 2017, CSC hosts 112 domain names. In addition to this, at least 75 active websites are hosted for free, and at least 1,800 free user accounts have been created offering email, WordPress and other website hosting, and more. Some of the current websites hosted include: the Seward Foundation, Seward 4th of July Celebration, the Seward County Visitors Committee, Seward High School, the City of Seward, Seward Memorial Library, Friends of Seward Library, the Seward Library Foundation, Seward County Bridges, and many area churches, organizations and businesses. The cost savings provided to users of Connect Seward County’s free website hosting is at least $10 per month.
The replacement of the current Connect Seward County servers is way overdue. Much of this equipment is over 10 years old and has far surpassed its normal working life. CSC is raising over $13,000 in funds for two servers that will provide both redundant backup during normal use and have compatible parts for repairs in case of catastrophic failure down the road. As part of this process, a new email interface with additional storage for each user is also being researched. CSC plans to raise funds every 7-10 years to maintain the server replacement schedule that best serves our county and continues to provide free, uninterrupted service for the many area businesses and organizations such as yours, who rely on us.
A volunteer board maintains all of the Connect Seward County services with no administrative costs. We are happy to say that the use of these services has steadily increased over the years. Connect Seward is now an indispensable part of the daily routine for many people in the area whether they are using it for email or to manage their website. Our hope is that through continued growth of the website and services that Connect Seward offers, our organization will continue to benefit those in Seward County.
