Welcome Back Everyone!

We are starting a new series of updates that will be passed out to students on Fridays to give to their parents. The updates are also available in the narthex of the church each Sunday for interested church members. It will also be available to view on the website www.connectseward.org then just click on our church. Please take time to read them so you know what’s happening and what events are coming up for our school children and teachers.

School News

  1. Update Information- If anybody has something to put in the Update please let Nichole Block know in the morning or there is going to be an update slot on the wall between the gym and the office. If you can’t find it just ask somebody.
  2. School Pictures- will be taken beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9th.
  3. Open House- We want to thank everyone for a great beginning to our school year. We are planning an open house on Sunday Sept. 4th right after the 9 a.m. church service. There is no Sunday school or bible class that week so please come to the school for refreshments and to see the amazing changes that have taken place over the summer.
  4. Donation- If you have plastic butter or sour cream etc… containers with lids, please take them down to the kitchen. We are in desperate need of some.

Extra Curricular Activities

Parent Auxiliary News

  1. Meeting- The first Parent Auxiliary meeting will be Tues. Sept. 13th after the volleyball game. The auxiliary will provide hot dogs before the meeting. Everyone is to bring a simple side dish. Look for more details in future updates. We encourage all parents to be involved.
  2. Recipes- The parent auxiliary cookbook fundraiser is in the works. Anyone wanting to submit recipes may pick up forms at the school or church. Return to either place or e-mail to ORLS@clarks.net. We are planning to have a special section for kids’ recipes. For the kids section we want you to write down a recipe exactly as your child explains it to you. (Yes, we want the “Mistakes”.) Kids may also submit real recipes. There is a place on the recipe form to pre-order cookbooks. Additional cookbooks will be available to purchase at the Soup Supper. If you have questions call Andrea Lewis at 540-2341 or Kim Payne at 535-2348. Thanks!
  3. Campbell’s Soup Labels & Box Tops- Please make sure you are saving these things. We will let you know where to put them in the next update.
  4. Pac n Save Receipts- make sure that you put your Pac n Save receipts in our school box before you leave Pac N Save. They are on the shelf before you leave the store. Please tell your family & friends to also put there receipts in our school box, because this is one of our biggest fundraisers for our school.

From Mrs. Potratz:

  1. The first week of the new school year has been wonderful!  We’re busy learning the routines in the classroom.  Our theme for the week was apples and we also learned about the color red and circles.  Our Bible verse was “God is love” 1 John 4:16.  I would encourage you to go over the Bible verse each week with your child.

2.  Sometime during the upcoming week, we would like a picture of  each preschool child from home.  The picture does not need to be large.  A snapshot or other small picture is fine.   We will be using the pictures for an upcoming activity.

  1.  The calendar for the rest of August has been sent home.  It includes the snack schedule for the upcoming week.  If you have questions or need to change your snack day, please let me know.

From Mrs. Wiest:

  1. We are excited to have 11 kindergartners and 5 first graders in class this year!  Thanks to all those who helped make all the changes in our classroom this year. We are enjoying working and learning in our “new” room!
  2. We have been busy learning routines and schedules this week as well as learning about how God created the world we live in.  Our Bible verse is “All things were created by God.” Colossians 1:16.
  3. The snack schedule was handed out at registration.  If you need a copy please let me know.
  4. Please read your child’s Kindergarten/First Grade Newsletter, which will be sent home every Friday in your child’s Friday Folder.

From Mrs. Phillips:

1. Memory work for Friday, September 2nd:

4th Grade: The First Commandment and What does this mean? And Romans 10:17

3rd Grade:  The First Commandment and What does this mean? And Psalm 37:5

2nd Grade:  The First Commandment and What does this mean?

  1. It’s hard to believe we are starting another school year already.  The students are so eager and ready to be back in school it’s great.  We are excited about the new changes this year and will have a lot of fun in and out of the classroom.  We will be doing a lot of different things this year and I’ll be sure to keep you all updated, but feel free to call me at home with any questions or concerns.
  2. Library will be on Thursdays this year, so please help remind your child to bring his/her library books back by library day so that they will get to check out new books.  They will be able to have two items checked out at a time.
  3. Memory work will be said first thing Friday mornings.  Please help your child learn their memory so that they won’t miss any recess.  Memory work sheets will be sent home every Friday so they will have a week to study.
  4. Show and Share will be on Fridays from 2:30-2:50 so if they would like to bring something special from home they may share it on Fridays.

From Mr. Garske:

1.      This year our religious studies are taking us via CPH booklets through the Old Testament. This coordinates well with our yearly school theme of “Bible Champions Of Faith” taken from Hebrews 11:1-40. Hopefully our students will see throughout the year that they too are champions of faith because of the Holy Spirit working faith in them and helping it to grow strong through God’s word.

2.      The 5th – 8th grade students will be going swimming for their P.E. class from         1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Wed. Aug. 31st. This field trip will be at Diana’s and my house, just like last year in our big backyard swimming pool. Pray for a sunny day.

3.      Memory Work
