Godparent Program:
Religious Education For High School Teens!
The Godparent Program is the Religious Education Program for those in Grades 9-12 of
the St. Vincent de Paul Parish. This program emphasizes spritual growth and the development
of a Catholic Community. Through this program, teens meet weekly on Wednesday
evenings. They meet with other teens in the relaxed atmosphere of a home to learn more about God, their relationship with Him, their
thoughts and feelings. Teens will be involved in planning liturgiew, social and service
activities with their group and the entire Godparent Program. They will be assigned into a Godparent Group, wich will
be led by a married couple called "Godparents." The Godparents will be assisted by other Godparent
Couples, the Parish Priest, and the Program Coordinators.
The groups are made up of about ten+ students from the same grade level.
Each group stays together, along with their Godparents, the full four years of the program. The
sessions consist of an hour of instruction and journal writing, followed by
fifteen minutes of social time. The married couples, who are chosen to be Godparents of the
groups, are those willing to share their faith, their sacrament of marriage,
their love and their home with high school students.
A Godparent Retreat is held every Fall at a camp that is within about an hour's
drive from the church. Click on this sentence to see some photos of the 2001 retreat.
It is a weekend event that consists of spiritual and fun activities. Special speakers and musicians
are invited to share their faith message with the groups. There is Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, a Penance Service,
Outdoor Candlelight Rosary around the campfire, and fun activities that the GP Program and
camp facilities provide!
